The NFL requires all teams reduce their rosters to 80 players by Tuesday, with the final cut to 53 players Saturday.
Offensive lineman Conan Amituanai, tight end Ed Barham, defensive backs Simeon Castille and Chris Adingupu, linebacker Jonathan Gilmore, wide receiver Andre Holmes, linebacker Kyle O’Donnell, kicker Nate Whitaker and defensive tackle Colby Whitlock are no longer Vikings.
Bomar, the fourth-string quarterback, did not take a snap in three preseason games and was arrested during training camp in Mankato on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Holmes’ departure could be considered a surprise because of his 6-foot-6 frame and athleticism, but he’s considered a project out of Division II Hillsdale and the Viking have plenty of depth at receiver.
The Vikings signed O’Donnell last week and cut him days later. Ryan Longwell is the only kicker on the Vikings’ roster after Whitaker’s departure.
